ECAC Hockey Standings Getting Tighter

Tickets on Sale Now for 2015 ECAC Hockey Championship Tournament, March 20-21 in Lake Placid

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. --- What was once a six point lead in the ECAC Hockey standings is now down to only four. Before last weekend, Quinnipiac (15-8-1, 10-2-0) appeared to be running away with the conference’s regular season title, but that changed quickly as the Bobcats lost twice, in their home and home series against 14th ranked Merrimack, Friday and Saturday, 4-3 and 3-1.  The two losses also dropped Quinnipiac eight places in the weekly USCHO.com poll, from 12th to 20th

Quinnipiac will take the weekend off before they try to snap their first two-game losing streak of the season, next Friday and Saturday, when they travel to face 11th seeded Brown (4-13-0, 1-9-0) and 13th ranked Yale (11-4-2, 6-3-1). The fifth seeded Bulldogs boast the nation’s top defense, allowing just 1.53 goals per game.

This weekend, Yale looks to entertain both St. Lawrence and Clarkson. The third seeded Saints (11-10-2, 7-4-2) hold a one point lead over Yale in the conference standings and are coming off a four goal win over second seeded and fourth ranked Harvard (11-3-2, 7-2-2), Saturday. The Crimson gave up a season-high five goals in the loss, falling 5-1.

Seventh seeded Clarkson (8-11-4, 5-4-2) has struggled this month, skating to a 1-3 record. Their only win in the new year came Saturday when they topped Dartmouth (6-8-3, 3-6-1) 5-2.

Despite the loss to St. Lawrence, Harvard was able to make up some ground on Quinnipiac last weekend. The Crimson picked up two points, Friday, when they doubled up Clarkson 6-3.

Harvard hits the road this weekend, squaring off with 15th ranked and fifth seeded Colgate (14-7-1, 6-3-1) and 10th seeded Cornell (7-8-2, 5-5-0). The Crimson and Big Red are separated by just three points in the conference standings.
