Race to the ECAC Hockey Playoffs

ECAC Hockey Men’s Championship Tickets Remain on Sale

ALBANY, N.Y. --- There’s just two weeks remaining in the regular season and teams are beginning to position themselves for a run at the ECAC Hockey Conference’s Cleary Cup and playoff seeding.

Third ranked Union (20-6-4, 14-3-1) leads the 12-school conference with 29 points, four ahead of fifth ranked Quinnipiac. The Dutchmen have already clinched a first-round bye in the playoffs and can finish no lower than third.

The Bobcats (21-6-5, 11-4-3) still have some work to do to remain near the top of the conference. With four games remaining, two at home and two on the road, they can finish anywhere between first and sixth.

Number-nine Colgate (14-11-5, 10-5-3) sits third in ECAC play, and with a pair of road games this weekend, before closing out the regular season the following weekend at home, against Harvard (9-12-4, 5-9-4) and Dartmouth (6-16-3, 5-12-1), they can finish no worse than eighth.

Thirteenth ranked Cornell (12-7-5, 8-6-4) and Clarkson (17-13-2, 10-8-0) sit tied for fourth place, with 20 points apiece. Both teams have picked a bad time to struggle. The Big Red lost twice at home last week, falling to Union 4-1, Friday, before suffering a 3-1 loss against RPI (13-12-5, 7-7-4), Saturday.

The Golden Knights remain one of four teams fighting for the final first round bye despite dropping six of their last eight games and falling out of the USCHO.Com top-20.  The woes continued when they were blanked by Harvard 1-0, Friday, before tumbling against Dartmouth, 6-1.

On March 21-22, the conference’s top four teams will face off in Lake Placid when the Olympic Center plays host to the 2014 ECAC Hockey men’s championships.  Lake Placid last played host to the tournament from 1993-2002 and the event marks the 53rd overall conference championship.

The four top teams coming from the league’s quarterfinal tournament round will battle it out on the ice looking to capture the Whitelaw Cup and an automatic bid to the 67th annual NCAA Division I men’s hockey tournament. The two semifinal games will take place Friday, March 21, at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and the championship game will be played Saturday, March 22, at 7:30 p.m.

All-session tickets can be purchased by calling the Lake Placid Olympic Center box office at 518-523-3330, or by visiting www.tickets.com. Tickets are priced at $50 for adults (ages 13-64), and $40 for juniors (12 & under) and seniors (65 & older), along with a special student ticket of $20 available, student identification card required, at the campuses of the four participating teams and a special designated ticket window at the 1980 Rink - Herb Brooks Arena box office.
