MTA Long Island Rail Road Offering Extra Service & Reduced Fares For the Extended Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend

MTA Long Island Rail Road is ready or the extended Thanksgiving holiday weekend with additional train service to get travelers where they want to go and off-peak ticket pricing they will find very attractive. 
  • The extra trains start rolling on Thanksgiving Eve, Wednesday, November 23, with a dozen extra get afternoon eastbound trains to handle the rush of customers fleeing out the workplace early for the holiday weekend.
  • On Thanksgiving Day, November 24, there will be extra trains to get you into the city for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and extra trains to get you home when the festivities end.
  • On Black Friday, November 25, one of the busiest shopping days of the year, the LIRR will run a regular weekday schedule with tickets at the lower, off-peak fares.
  • There will also be extra trains running on Saturday, November 26 and Sunday, November 27, making travel to and from New York City a snap for shopping, dining and entertainment. It’s the first of six consecutive weekends that the LIRR will beef up service to meet the holiday season demand.
Off-Peak Fares in Effect Thursday thru Sunday
As a holiday bonus, the LIRR will offer tickets at off-peak prices over the four-day weekend Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 24 through Sunday, November 27. Additionally, the Railroad’s Family Fare Discount will be in effect all four days. That means kids ages 5-11 (limit of 4 children) can ride one-way for $1 when accompanied by a fare paying parent or guardian. However, those tickets must be purchased before you board the train. Weekly and monthly ticket holders pay just for the kids and, as always, children under 5 ride free.

Thanksgiving Eve, Wednesday, November 23
Eastbound – 12 Extra Trains Departing from Penn Station
Babylon Branch
  • The 2:19 p.m. train express to Rockville Centre, then all stops to Babylon.
  • The 2:32 p.m. train express to Lynbrook, then all stops to Babylon.
  • The 3:00 p.m. train stopping at Jamaica, Rockville Centre, then all stops to Babylon.
  • The 3:31 p.m. express to Rockville Centre, then all stops to Babylon.
Port Jefferson Branch 
  • The 2:08 p.m. train stopping at Jamaica, Mineola, then all stops to Huntington.
  • The 2:29 p.m. train stopping at Forest Hills, Kew Gardens, Jamaica, New Hyde Park, then all stops to Huntington.
  • The 3:24 p.m. train stopping at Jamaica, Mineola, Westbury and Hicksville.
Ronkonkoma Branch
  • 12:42 p.m. train stopping at Woodside, Jamaica, Mineola, Hicksville, then all stops to Ronkonkoma (except Pinelawn).
  • 1:49 p.m. train Woodside, Jamaica, Mineola, Hicksville, then all stops to Ronkonkoma (except Pinelawn).
Port Washington Branch
  • The 3:40 p.m. train stopping at Woodside, Flushing/Main St., then all stops to Great Neck.
Far Rockaway Branch
  • The 3:48 p.m. express train to Locust Manor, then all stops to Far Rockaway.
Montauk Branch
  • The 4:06 p.m. train express to Westhampton, then stopping at Southampton, Bridgehampton, East Hampton and Montauk.
In the interest of safety, alcohol will not be allowed on LIRR trains, stations or platforms from 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 23, through 5 a.m., Thursday, November 24. MTA Police will enforce this restriction.
 
Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 24
On Thanksgiving Day, the LIRR is running on a weekend/holiday schedule supplemented by with 17 extra trains timed perfectly for those attending the Thanksgiving Day Parade or otherwise visiting the city. There will be 6 extra westbound trains in the morning and 11 extra eastbound trains in the afternoon. Coach cars will be added to select trains as the demand requires to accommodate holiday travelers.
Westbound – 6 Extra Trains Heading into Penn Station
Babylon Branch
  • The 6:49 a.m. train from Babylon, making all stops to Rockville Center, then Jamaica, and Penn Station.
  • The 7:21 a.m. train from Babylon, making all stops to Rockville Centre, then Jamaica and Penn Station.
Ronkonkoma Branch
  • The 6:10 a.m. train from Ronkonkoma, making all stops to Hicksville, then Jamaica, Woodside and Penn Station.
  • The 7:18 a.m. train from Ronkonkoma, making all stops to Hicksville, then Jamaica, Woodside and Penn Station.
Huntington/Port Jefferson Branch
  • The 6:01 a.m. train from Port Jefferson making all stops to Huntington, then stopping at Jamaica and Penn Station.
Montauk Branch
  • The 6:28 a.m. train from Speonk, making all stops to Babylon, Jamaica and Penn Station.
Eastbound – 11 Extra Trains Departing from Penn Station
Babylon Branch
  • The 11:39 a.m., 12:09 p.m., 12:39 p.m. and 1:09 p.m. trains from Penn Station stopping at Jamaica, Rockville Centre, then all local stops to Babylon.
Huntington Branch
  • The 11:59 p.m. from Penn Station, stopping at Jamaica, New Hyde Park and all stops to Huntington.
Port Jefferson Branch
  • The 12:06 p.m. train from Penn Station, stopping at Jamaica, Mineola, Hicksville, then all stops to Port Jefferson
Montauk Branch
  • The 12:15 p.m. train from Penn Station, stopping at Jamaica, Freeport, then all stops to Speonk
Ronkonkoma Branch
  • The 11:35 a.m. train from Penn Station, stopping at Woodside, Jamaica, Hicksville Bethpage Farmingdale then all stops to Ronkonkoma except Pinelawn.
  • The 12:32 p.m. train from Penn Station, stopping at Woodside, Jamaica, New Hyde Park, Mineola, Hicksville, Bethpage, Farmingdale, then all stops to Ronkonkoma except Pinelawn.
  • The 1:03 p.m. train from Penn Station, stopping at Woodside, Jamaica, New Hyde Park, then all stops to Farmingdale.
  • The 1:32 p.m. train from Penn Station, stopping at Woodside, Jamaica, Hicksville, Bethpage, Farmingdale, then all stops to Ronkonkoma, except Pinelawn.
Black Friday, November 25
LIRR trains will operate on a normal weekday schedule on Friday, November 29 with off-peak fares in effect the entire day.
Extra Holiday Weekend Train Service 
Saturday, November 26 & Sunday, November 27
Beginning this weekend, the LIRR is offering extra train service on weekends through the entire holiday season for your shopping, dining, sightseeing and entertainment pleasure.  The LIRR is add four morning westbound trains and six afternoon eastbound trains to its regular weekend schedule on Saturday, November 26, and Sunday, November 27 and the weekends of hose weekends December 3-4, December 10-11, December 17-18, December 25-26 and December 31 - January 1. The extra weekend trains are as follows:
Long Beach Branch
Westbound 
  • The 8:55 a.m., 9:55 a.m., 10:55 a.m. and 11:55 a.m. trains from Long Beach making all local stops to Jamaica then express to Penn Station.
Eastbound
  • The 4:09 p.m., 5:09 p.m., 6:09 p.m. and 7:09 p.m. trains from Penn Station, stopping at Jamaica and making all local stops to Long Beach.
Babylon Branch
Eastbound
  • The 1:14 a.m. from Penn Station, stopping at Jamaica, Rockville Centre and then all stops to Babylon
Port Jefferson Branch
Eastbound
  • The 2:46 a.m. from Penn Station stopping at Jamaica, New Hyde Park, then all stops to Huntington.
