19-Year-Old Clifton Park Man Wins $1,000,000 Scratch-Off Prize

The New York Lottery’s Yolanda Vega awarded the lucky millionaire his check at the Stewart’s Shops where he purchased his ticket

19-year-old Clifton Park resident Anthony Iavarone is the Capital District’s newest Lottery millionaire. Yolanda Vega was on hand at the Stewart’s Shops on Northline Road in Ballston Spa to award Iavarone his $1,000,000 Lottery prize. The self-employed landscaper won his jackpot on the popular $1,000,000 Cashword scratch-off ticket.

“I stopped at Stewart’s to put air in my tires and decided to run in and buy a Lottery ticket,” explained Iavarone. “I picked the Cashword ticket because that’s the ticket my aunt always plays.”

Iavarone scratched the ticket and couldn’t believe he won the jackpot. “I didn’t believe that I really won. My father took the ticket and scanned it to be sure, but we still didn’t believe it.”

The $1,000,000 top prize on $1,000,000 Cashword ticket is paid out as a one-time lump sum payment. Iavarone will receive a net check totaling $661,800 after required withholdings.

“Winning the Lottery is one of the best feelings in the world,” explained the newly-minted millionaire. “I plan to use the money to grow my small business.”

Iavarone is the 42nd New York Lottery player to win a prize of $1,000,000 or more in 2017.

The New York Lottery contributed $35,741,783 in Lottery Aid to Education to school districts in Saratoga County during fiscal year 2016-2017.

About the New York Lottery

The New York Lottery continues to be North America’s largest and most profitable Lottery, contributing $3.27 billion in fiscal year 2016-2017 to help support education in New York State. The Lottery’s contribution represents approximately 14 percent of total state education aid to local school districts.

New York Lottery revenue is distributed to local school districts by the same statutory formula used to distribute other state aid to education. It takes into account both a school district’s size and its income level; larger, lower-income school districts receive proportionately larger shares of Lottery school funding.
