ADVISORY: Lieutenant Governor and MTA Announce School Street Reopening and Completion of Grade Crossing Elimination

Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) will announce the reopening of School Street in the Village of Westbury and Hamlet of New Cassel. The elimination of this railroad crossing, creating a new underpass, will improve safety and noise levels in the local community and is yet another major milestone for the LIRR Expansion Project.

WHEN:

TODAY, Nov. 13 at 11:30 a.m.

WHERE:

School Street Railroad Crossing in Westbury

Members of the press may park at the LIRR Westbury Station which is a 5-minute walk to site

Walking directions from parking lot:

  • Go to the north side of the tracks through the Pedestrian underpass (Tunnel).
  • Make a right (heading east) onto Union Ave.
  • Continue for 3 to 4 blocks on Union Avenue until School Street where you make a right (1st right after the station).
  • Stay on the west sidewalk of School Street.
  • Viewing area is set up on the north west corner of the School Street Railroad crossing.
