ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Michelle Dudley, 59, of Greece, Monroe County was grocery shopping at her local Wegmans and decided to buy a Powerball ticket on her way out of the store.  That final purchase earned the retiree a $1,000,000 payday.

“I rarely play the Lottery,”  “I’ll buy a few tickets when the jackpots get really high.  That’s when we’re in it to win it!” explained the lucky millionaire.

Dudley left her ticket on the kitchen counter and didn’t have a chance to check it until she and her husband returned home from a camping trip.

“I went online and saw that we had five numbers.  I must have checked 12 times to make sure I was right.  Then I nearly fell through the chair when I saw the $1,000,000 prize,” she laughed.

Dudley purchased her Powerball ticket at Wegmans on Ridge Road West in Rochester on August 6.  She claimed her prize on August 23 at the Lottery’s Rochester Customer Service Center.

Dudley will receive her $1,000,000 Powerball prize in one lump sum totaling $661,800 after required withholdings. The winning numbers for the August 7 Powerball drawing were 05-25-30-58-59 and Powerball 32.

Monroe County’s newest Lottery millionaire said she has no plans for the money because she never planned to win.

“The odds of winning are astronomical.  When we were younger we used to play ‘what would you do with the money?’  Now that we’re older we really just play for giggles.”

Dudley is New York State’s 97th Lottery millionaire in 2013.

The New York Lottery contributed $161,462,177.02 in Lottery Aid To Education to school districts throughout Monroe County during fiscal year 2012-13.
