New York Department of State Announces Details for Fifth Annual Local Government Innovation Conference

Awards will be Given to Local Governments for Innovation, Partnership and Regional Impact

The New York Department of State’s Division of Local Government Services is proud to announce the agenda for the 5th Annual Local Government Innovation Conference (LGIC), to be held October 17-18, 2019.

The conference kicks off on October 17 with an award reception hosted by Mark Pattison, Deputy Secretary of State.  Awards will be given to trendsetters in local governance in the following categories: Secretary of State’s Choice, Trailblazer, Best Partner and Regional Impact.

Official conference workshop tracks and sessions will take place October 18 at the Empire State Plaza. This year sessions are especially geared toward common, big ticket issues and opportunities that local government staff see in working with municipalities of all sizes across the State. The goal is to give municipal leaders ideas that can lead to a better, safer, more prosperous future for their communities. The day will feature:

  • Cyberattack: Is Your municipality next?
  • Fighting Blight: Community Officials Data Exchange (C.O.D.E.) a shared regional code enforcement information platform, funded by DOS. This NEW tool will help to address growing costs associated with blighted properties, estimated at over $100,000 per year, per property.
  • Two workshop tracks that include local officials who are effectively deploying new methods to balance limited financial, technical and personnel resources to dramatically change how they do business and an introduction to a suite of public resources and local strategies to support their economic development goals. Sessions include:
    • Emergency Services
    • Water and Wastewater Infrastructure
    • Best of the Rest
    • Utilizing the Geographic Information Gateway
    • Programs to Support Rural Economic Development and Resiliency – Part 1&2

New York State Secretary of State Rossana Rosado said, “The Local Government Innovation Conference is a great opportunity for local government innovators to come together and recognize the need for bringing new ideas and strategies for community development and government plans that can be shared and discussed to create a new range of opportunities for municipalities in the near future.”
