Invitees Set for Women’s Team Selection Camp

Camp opens June 16-23 in Lake Placid, N.Y.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - USA Hockey has announced the 41 players invited to its U.S. women's national team selection camp that will take place at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid, N.Y., June 16-23.

The camp, which will consist of daily practices, off-ice testing, and three intrasquad scrimmages, will be used to determine the U.S. women's national team roster that will train together and participate in various competitions in the build-up to the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.

USA Hockey will unveil the players selected to the U.S. women's national team on June 24 and that group will continue to train in Lake Placid until June 27.

The final 21-player U.S. Olympic women's Ice hockey team roster is expected to be announced in late December 2013.

NOTES: The 41 players selected to the U.S. Women's National Team Selection Camp include 12 Olympians. All total, the group features 25 forwards, 12 defensemen and four goaltenders. ... All 23 players from the U.S. Women's National Team that captured the gold medal at the 2013 International Ice Hockey Federation Women's World Championship in Ottawa, Ont., and 22 members that earned first place at the 2012 Four Nations Cup in Vantaa, Finland, will be taking part in the camp ... Jincy Dunne (O'Fallon, Mo.) will be the youngest player on the roster at 16-years old at the time of the camp, while Julie Chu (Fairfield, Conn.) will be the oldest at 31 ... Seven players will be vying for their first opportunity to represent the U.S. ... Reagan Carey (Colorado Springs, Colo.), USA Hockey's director of women's hockey, will be overseeing the camp and is serving as the general manager of the 2014 Olympic Women's Ice Hockey Team ... Katey Stone (Arlington, Mass.), head women’s ice hockey coach at Harvard University, is the head coach of the U.S. Women's National Team and will also serve as the head coach of the 2014 U.S. Olympic Women's Ice Hockey Team. She will be the first female head coach to lead the U.S. Olympic Women's Ice Hockey Team ... The 2014 Olympic Winter Games will run from Feb. 6-23 and the women’s ice hockey competition is slated to begin on Feb. 8 with the gold-medal game played on Feb. 20 ... Women’s ice hockey has been included in the last four Olympic Winter Games. Team USA has medaled in each of the four Games in which women's ice hockey has been contested, including earning gold in 1998, silver in 2002 and 2010 and bronze in 2006.
