Metro-North Railroad Announces Return of “Shopper Specials” Trains on Saturday, Dec. 23

Lengthened Trains on the Harlem, Hudson, and New Haven Lines

Extra Train Service on New Haven Line

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) announced today that “Shoppers Specials” trains will return to the Metro-North Railroad this Saturday, Dec. 23, for the first time since before the pandemic.

Weekend travel demand has been growing steadily. Metro-North has lengthened its trains each weekend since Thanksgiving, and the region keeps riding.

“The holidays can be the busiest time of year for many riders, and the Metro-North ‘shopper specials’ are back to help with any last-minute holiday shopping,” said Metro-North Railroad President Cathy Rinaldi. “The Hudson, Harlem, and New Haven Lines will be the best way to get to and from New York City this Saturday.  We will be running longer trains on all three lines, as well as two additional New Haven Line trains into Grand Central in the morning and two additional New Haven-bound trains leaving Grand Central in the evening.”

Along with lengthened trains this weekend on the Hudson, Harlem and New Haven Lines, Metro-North will operate two extra round trips on Saturday, Dec. 23, on the New Haven Line between New Haven and Grand Central Terminal (GCT) to accommodate holiday travelers.
