Operating Engineers Recruit Apprentices

New Hampton, NY (August 5, 2017) – The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Operating Engineers, Local Union #825, will conduct a recruitment from September 5, 2017 through September 18, 2017 for 10 operating engineer apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Please note that the 10 openings listed for apprentices represent the total number for two recruitment regions, the Hudson Valley and Southern Tier regions. This program’s jurisdiction includes the counties of Delaware, Orange, Rockland, Sullivan, and Ulster. Applications must be completed in-person.

Applications can be obtained from Local Union #825, 96 Bates/Gates Road, New Hampton, NY, from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2017. This is a limited-application recruitment. Only 60 applications will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old at the time of application.
  • Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED).
  • Must pass a drug screening, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to indenture.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have the ability to acquire a NYS Commercial Driver’s License. Apprentices may be required to operate company vehicles. Proof will be required after selection and prior to indenture.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from various job sites and related instruction classes.
  • Must pass the WorkKeys Locating Information Test to be eligible for an interview.
  • Must provide DD-214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, if applicable, after selection and prior to indenture.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
