Thirty-four-year-old Matthew Cox of Liverpool has claimed the top prize of $10,000 a week for life on the $10,000 A Week For Life scratch-off game.

The Dot Food warehouse worker said they he normally plays $1 and $2 games but tried his luck at a $20 ticket since he had gotten paid that day.

Cox said he scratched his ticket in his car, “I wasn’t sure what to do. I went inside and scanned the ticket on the vending machine. I was in shock.”

Cox chose to receive his prize in annual installments of $520,000 before required withholdings.  He will receive a net check totaling $349,336 every year for the rest of his life.

Cox said his plans for the money include paying bills and setting up college funds for his two young children.

When asked how it feels to win the Lottery, Cox simply said it felt “good.”

The winning ticket was purchased at the Fastrac at 3364 Main Street in Mexico.

The New York Lottery contributed $110,320,597.16 in Lottery Aid to Education to school districts in Onondaga County during fiscal year 2017-2018.
