Road to 2016 U.S. Figure Skating Championships Begins Saturday in Lake Placid

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. --- A field of 275 skaters, ranging from juvenile to senior level, will compete at the North Atlantic Regional Figure Skating Championships, taking place, Oct. 3-5, at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid, N.Y. Skaters will perform both short programs and free skate in hopes of qualifying for one of four spots in the Eastern Sectional Championships, Nov. 17-20, in Simsbury, Conn. The top four skaters from the sectional competition will go on to compete in the U.S. Figure Skating Championships.

Ashley Cain, whose father, Peter, participated in pairs skating at the 1980 Olympic Winter Games in Lake Placid, leads the senior level ladies competition. Cain started her career in 2009 as a pairs skater, finishing fourth at the 2011 World Junior Championships and capturing the 2011 U.S. Junior Title. In 2012, she continued skating as a singles competitor and won the 2012 U.S. Championships silver medal at the junior level.

Cain is joined by senior level skater Lyra Katzman, who was recently named to the 2015 U.S. Figure Skating Scholastic Honors Team. The program recognizes high school athletes who excel in figure skating, academics and community involvement. Katzman is also the 2014 Eastern Sectional Championships junior ladies bronze medalist.

Admission to the North Atlantic Regional Figure Skating Championships is $12 for adults and $7 for juniors and seniors. All event tickets are $30 for adults and $18 for juniors and seniors. Tickets are available at the door of the Herb Brooks Arena.
