NYS Tax Commissioner visits free tax filing assistance site at Empire State Plaza; highlights benefits of online filing and warns of latest tax season scams

What: The Tax Department’s network of free tax return filing sites has grown to 85 sites statewide this year. The site at the Empire State Plaza is one of the busiest in the Capital Region.

New Yorkers are eligible for this free service if they earn $62,000 or less.

Commissioner Jerry Boone will be on site to discuss the free filing options made available by the Tax Department.

Commissioner Boone will also provide updates on the latest tax season scams and offer tips on how taxpayers can protect themselves.

When:    10:30 a.m.—11:30 a.m. Thursday, February 4, 2016

Where: Empire State Plaza—North Concourse outside Key Bank, Albany, NY

Why:    Many taxpayers don’t realize that they can file their state and federal incomes taxes for free! Taxpayers also need to remain vigilant and be wary of fraudulent calls from individuals demanding personal and financial information.
