Step off the train at Metro-North’s Patterson station, where a waiting shuttle bus will take you to the slopes at Thunder Ridge Ski Area. Its scenic slopes are perfect for all levels of skiers and snowboarders, from beginner to expert.  After a day of skiing, have a relaxing meal in the slopeside lodge and take in the panoramic views.  

 

Take part in “President’s Day Winterfest” on Monday, February 19, and discover one of Newburgh, New York’s hidden gems. Skate on frozen Crystal Lake, take a snowshoe trek to Mill Pond, or test ride a fat bike.  Organized by Scenic Hudson, this winter tradition is free to the public and within easy reach from the Beacon Station.  

 

Nature lovers can soar to the eagles on Metro-North.  Winter marks the bald eagle’s return to the Hudson Valley, and Metro-North offers customers a special getaway deal to Teatown's Hudson River EagleFest, taking place at Croton Point Park on Saturday, February 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Customers can ride to the event on special “Eagle Train” cars, where on-board naturalists will point out various Hudson Valley birds spotted along the journey. This annual event includes live eagle shows and bird walks. Frequent, free shuttle service at the Croton-Harmon station takes customers to and from the event.

Getting there:

Take the Harlem Line to Patterson Station where a shuttle bus meets designated a.m. trains to take you to the ski area. Later in the day, a shuttle bus will return you to Patterson Station to meet designated p.m. trains for your trip home. Check here for an ITINERARY.

Connect with nature and explore Crystal Lake, one of Newburgh's hidden gems. This Scenic Hudson event highlights outdoor winter activities…ice skate on a frozen lake, take a guided snowshoe trek, or enjoy a test ride a fat bike.  Skates and snowshoes are available in most sizes. There’s even a winter survival program being offered through Wild Earth.

Teatown's Hudson River EagleFest at Croton Point Park: Saturday, February 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The experience:

This annual event includes live eagle shows, bird walks, over 25 participating environmental organizations, numerous viewing sites all along the Hudson River, food trucks and children’s activities. This year’s EagleFest features a special performance by singer Dar Williams and tickets to free showings of the documentary, “The Eagle Huntress” at Pace University.  No need to fight the elements, stay warm in heated tents.

Snow date: If the event is cancelled on Saturday, February 11 due to inclement weather, EagleFest will be held the following day, Sunday, February 12, all pre-sold tickets will be honored that day. If the event is cancelled altogether, tickets are refundable.

The 9:47 a.m. “Eagle Train” car from Grand Central to Croton-Harmon, and a 10 a.m. “Eagle Train” car from Poughkeepsie to Croton-Harmon, feature guest naturalists from Wave Hill and the Mid-Hudson Sierra Club who will highlight wildlife along the journey.

 

Frequent Hudson Line  train service to the Croton Harmon Station is available throughout the day from Grand Central Terminal and the Poughkeepsie Station, with a free shuttle connection to/from Croton-Harmon station and Croton Point Park.
