COLLECTIBLE SNEAKERS AND SPORTS MEMORABILIA TO BE SOLD AT NYSSTORE EBAY SITE

Just in time for the holiday shopping season, New York State Office of General Services (OGS) Commissioner RoAnn Destito today announced the OGS State Surplus team is providing the public with opportunities to purchase some unique items not commonly found on the NYSStore.com eBay site.

Over the next several weeks, 188 pairs of sneakers and 14 pieces of sports memorabilia seized by the New York State Police as part of an investigation into the distribution of illegal drugs on Long Island will be added to the list of furniture, file cabinets, computer equipment, tools, and other government surplus items usually sold by New York State on eBay.

Among the sneakers to be sold are Nike Air Jordan and LeBron James shoes, as well as other unique and colorful models sought and traded by sneakerheads.

Images of the sneakers taken from several different angles, as well as photos of the boxes, labels, and any original release add-ons — cloth bags, shirts, extra laces — will be posted on eBay to ensure collectors can familiarize themselves with the items before deciding whether to place a bid.

There are also 14 pieces of seized sports memorabilia — basketball, baseball, football — that will be sold by OGS on eBay. They include artwork, photographs, balls, and jerseys, both signed and unsigned. Although not all of the seized items came with paperwork, several pieces have verified certificates of authenticity, including Upper Deck-authenticated Michael Jordan jerseys from the Bulls, Wizards, and the University of North Carolina.

In addition to Jordan enthusiasts, fans of Derek Jeter, Joe Torre, Stephon Marbury, Jason Kidd, Alex Rodriguez, Scott Eyre, Mike Schmidt, Mark McGwire, and Vinny Testaverde will also want to visit the NYSStore.com eBay site as new items get posted each week.

Condition and Inspection

All items are being sold as-is, and bidders are encouraged to inspect items for sale before bidding. For the seized sneakers and sports memorabilia, arrangements to inspect the items at an OGS facility in the Capital Region can be made by contacting OGS State Surplus by phone at (518) 457-6335 or email at ogs.sm.state.surplus@ogs.ny.gov.

Payment

Successful bidders are required to submit full payment within two business days of the bid award. All payments must be made with a major credit card through a secure online payment portal. A link to the portal will be sent to the email address that the winning bidder has on file with eBay.

Shipping and Pickup

For the seized sneakers and sports memorabilia only, OGS is making an exception to its no packing and no shipping policy and will provide information on shipping to winning bidders.

Otherwise, items must be picked up within 10 business days after receiving a notice of award. Winning bidders should call the contact person listed on their receipt at least 24 hours in advance to schedule an appointment for pickup.

COVID-19 protocols are in effect. Face coverings must be worn when picking up or inspecting items, and in-person payments will not be accepted.
