Media Advisory: State Commissioner to Highlight Valuable Tax Credits and Free Tax Preparation and Filing Help Available to Eligible New Yorkers

OTDA employees and local college students offer free income tax assistance in downtown Albany

What: The New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance hosts one of more than 600 Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites across the state. OTDA’s downtown Albany VITA office has prepared and filed more than 1,000 tax returns a year – free of charge to eligible taxpayers.

New Yorkers are eligible for this free service if they earn $54,000 or less.

With less than three weeks to go in the tax filing season, OTDA Commissioner Samuel D. Roberts will be on site to discuss how to access free tax assistance, as well as how VITA tax preparers can help low-income New Yorkers obtain all tax credits for which they may be eligible.

Commissioner Roberts will also provide tax filing statistics, including total refund amounts and total Earned Income Tax Credits generated so far at VITA sites across New York State.

When: 10:30—11:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 30

Where: 40 North Pearl Street, Albany, NY – 1st floor VITA site

Interview opportunities with:

  • Samuel D. Roberts, Commissioner, Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance
