If no one matches all six numbers required to win the jackpot, the top prize for the January 1, 2019 Mega Millions game will be an estimated $415 Million.
Mega Millions has awarded 16 jackpots totaling more than $300 million since the game’s debut in 2002, including the Mega Millions record of $1.537 billion won in South Carolina on October 23, 2018.
The winning numbers for the Mega Millions game are drawn from a field of one to 70. The Mega Ball is drawn from a separate field one to of 25. The Mega Millions drawing is televised every Tuesday and Friday at 11 p.m. on select Lottery draw stations.
News about the growing Mega Millions jackpot comes on the heels of the New York Lottery’s announcement earlier this week that a jackpot-winning Powerball ticket worth more than $298 Million was purchased at Arnold’s Service Station at 1868 Linden Blvd. in Brooklyn.
Jackpot prizes for either game may be claimed up to one year from the date of the drawing.
About the New York Lottery The New York Lottery continues to be North America’s largest and most profitable Lottery, contributing $3.37 billion in fiscal year 2017-2018 to help support education in New York State. The Lottery’s contribution represents approximately 13 percent of total state education aid to local school districts.
New York Lottery revenue is distributed to local school districts by the same statutory formula used to distribute other state aid to education. It takes into account both a school district’s size and its income level; larger, lower-income school districts receive proportionately larger shares of Lottery school funding. |
