DEC ANNOUNCES ‘STATE OF THE LAKE FISHERIES’ PUBLIC MEETING WITH LAKE CHAMPLAIN MANAGEMENT COOPERATIVE

Fisheries Staff to Present and Answer Questions March 15 in Burlington VT

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) will join its partners in the Lake Champlain Fish and Wildlife Management Cooperative, a working group of fisheries professionals from the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department, and the United States Fish and Wildlife Service to host a ‘State of the Lake Fisheries’ meeting on Sat., March 15. The public meeting is open for anglers and other individuals interested in the fisheries of Lake Champlain.

DEC encourages interested anglers and outdoor enthusiasts to attend. Registration is not required.

This meeting is an opportunity for agency staff and others to provide updates on the status and trends of the fisheries in Lake Champlain and to hear directly from anglers. Information will be provided on restoration, research, assessment, and other accomplishments in the past year, as well as work planned for the coming year, with time provided for questions from attendees. Species to be discussed include Lake Trout, landlocked Atlantic Salmon, Sea Lamprey, and Walleye.

Recorded presentations will be available approximately one month following the meeting here.

Lake Champlain anglers and all fishing enthusiasts are also encouraged to visit DEC's 'Tackle Box' feature in the HuntFishNY App, which provides anglers one-stop shopping for waterbody-specific information on fishing regulations, stocking, and fishing/boating access sites.
