Reopening of Gilgo State Park

Who:            Commissioner Erik Kulleseid – New York State Parks
                     Kristen Reynolds – CEO & President of Discover Long Island

           

What:            Reopening and ribbon cutting of Gilgo State Park.


Gilgo State Park will be reopening after the placement 800,000 cubic yards of sand on the beachfront. This sand was dredged from the Fire Island Inlet by the Army Corp of Engineers.

Also, 18 million pounds of surface cement riprap at the former Coast Guard Station was removed prior to this sand placement. 

An announcement will be made regarding the special use permit sales.

Where:          Gilgo Beach State, located off Ocean Parkway, west of Captree State Park, Suffolk County
