LAKE PLACID OLYMPIC MUSEUM INDUCTED INTO OLYMPIC MUSEUMS NETWORK

LAKE PLACID – Today, the Lake Placid Olympic Museum was confirmed by the general assembly of the Olympic Museums Network as their newest member. The vote followed a presentation by Alison Haas, Lake Placid Olympic Museum’s director, on the nonprofit’s work to expand access to the world’s second largest collection of Winter Olympic artifacts.

“I am humbled that the Lake Placid Olympic Museum is joining the Olympic Museums Network,” said Alison Haas. “This is in recognition of all the hard work our museum staff, board of trustees, ORDA and Adirondack community has put into making this museum a world-class destination for winter Olympic history.”

The Lake Placid Olympic Museum recently completed a long application process with the Olympic Museums Network that analyzed the organization’s history, collection, and dedication to furthering the Olympic movement.

“Being confirmed today by the Olympic Museums Network shows just how hard Alison and her team have worked to create an unmatched collection that will help visitors appreciate the rich history of international sporting competitions that Lake Placid has,” said Jonathan Becker, President of the Lake Placid Olympic Museum’s Board of Trustees.

Founded in 2006 the Olympic Museums Network, part of the International Olympic Committee, was established with 11 founding members, with the aim of finding ways of working together to preserve the rich history of the Olympics. Headquartered in Switzerland, the Olympic Museums Network now has 32 members across the world. The Lake Placid Olympic Museum is one of only three member-museums based in North America.
