Finishing Trades Recruit Apprentices

     Albany, NY (May 8, 2014) - The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for The Finishing Trades Institute of New York at Albany, District Council #9, Local Union #201, will conduct a recruitment from June 4, 2014 through May 6, 2015 for five painter, decorator, and paperhanger apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Peter M. Rivera announced today.

     Please note that the openings listed for apprentices represent the total number for both the Capital and Mohawk Valley regions.

     Applications can be obtained at The Finishing Trades Institute of New York at Albany Training Center, 348 Duanesburg Road, Rotterdam, NY, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. every Wednesday, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period.

             The Committee requires that applicants:

    • Must be at least 18 years old.
    • Must have at least a 10th grade education.
    • Must have reliable transportation to and from job sites and related instruction.

         Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner.  Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status.  Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs.  Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
