Insulators and Asbestos Workers Recruit Apprentices

Albany, NY (December 23, 2014) – The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Heat & Frost Insulators & Allied Workers, Local Union #40, will conduct a recruitment from January 26, 2015 through January 25, 2016 for six insulation and asbestos worker apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Peter M. Rivera announced today.

Applications can be obtained at Local Union #40, 890 Third Street, Albany, NY, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on the second and fourth Monday of each month, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. 

The Committee requires that applications:

·         Must be at least 18 years old.

·         Must have a minimum of a 10th grade education with a passing grade in Math I. 

·         Must be able to work at heights using scaffolds and ladders.

·         Must be able to work indoors and outdoors.

·         Must sign a consent form agreeing to random drug screenings, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to indenture.

·         Must reside within the geographic jurisdiction of Local Union #40 for at least one year prior to application date. This includes the counties of Albany, Clinton, Columbia, Delaware, Essex, Franklin, Fulton, Greene, Hamilton, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Sullivan, Ulster, Warren, and Washington.

·         Must provide military transfer or discharge form DD-214, if applicable, after selection and prior to indenture.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status.  Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs.  Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
