The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) will conduct a diesel truck pollution prevention detail on July 2 as part of its ongoing Operation ECO-Quality initiative.

Operation ECO-Quality has helped environmental justice communities from Buffalo to Long Island, including Albany’s South End, to evaluate and address environmental conditions in these communities. In 2012, DEC set up vehicle checkpoints and roving patrols in South Albany to inspect diesel trucks for compliance with clean air standards and other relevant laws, and visited small and mid-sized regulated facilities. The program focuses on encouraging greater compliance with environmental laws to address potential environmental health and quality of life issues in low-income and minority communities.
