The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Plasterers, Local Union #262, will conduct a recruitment from October 09, 2017 through October 20, 2017 for 10 plasterer apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Applications must be completed in person at Local Union #262, 150-50 14th Road, Queens, NY, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., during the recruitment period. Applications must be received no later than October 20, 2017.

The Committee requires that applicants:

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED).
• Must take and pass a math test, administered by Local Union #262.
• Must be physically able to perform the work of the trade, which may include:
• Working with hand tools and power tools.
• Possible exposure to loud noises and respiratory irritants.
• Prolonged standing, climbing, walking, squatting, stretching, and bending.
• Working in severe weather conditions and extreme temperatures.
• Working in confined spaces.
• Lifting and moving objects and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds.
• Working off of ladders, scaffolds, and lifts at heights of 100 feet or more.
• Must provide DD-214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, if applicable, after selection and prior to indenture.
• Must have reliable means of transportation to and from various job sites and related instruction classes.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
