Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Chair and CEO Janno Lieber delivered remarks at Transit Tech Career and Technical Education High School’s 33rd commencement ceremony at Citi Field on Monday evening, June 27. Lieber became the first MTA Chair and CEO to deliver remarks at the school’s commencement ceremony.

“It is important that big New York institutions like the MTA show our commitment to develop and draw our workforce from the incredible pool of talent we have here in New York,” said Chair and CEO Lieber. “Transit Tech is a crown jewel, as a I saw firsthand when I visited a few months ago with U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg. Congratulations to the Class of 2022 and their families. I hope they find a moment to pause and savor their accomplishment.”

New York City Transit Senior Vice President of Subways Demetrius Crichlow also addressed the graduates.

“If you have selected transit as your career of choice, we welcome you with open arms,”
said Crichlow. "Your experience as a graduate of Transit Tech means you start this journey with skills that allow you to contribute. At New York City Transit, you will work side by side with the dedicated, industrious people who are truly the lifeforce of the MTA and this region. I celebrate you and salute you on your accomplishments and look forward to seeing your star rise.”

Lieber and Crichlow joined U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg for a visit to the school in April. Transit Tech Career and Technical Education High School has a longstanding relationship connecting students interested in pursuing a career in transit with New York City Transit.
