EMPIRE ‘SKATE’ PLAZA TO HOST ‘WINTER BREAK TAKEOVER’ PRESENTED BY MVP HEALTH CARE FEATURING FREE ACTIVITIES AND ENTERTAINMENT DURING PRESIDENTS’ DAY WEEK

Come Meet Captain Marvel, the RPI Men’s Hockey Team, and the Adirondack Thunder

New York State Office of General Services Commissioner RoAnn Destito today announced a full schedule of family-friendly fun has been planned for the Empire ‘Skate’ Plaza during the Presidents’ Day week mid-winter recess, Monday, February 17 through Friday, February 21.

Presented by MVP Health Care, The Empire ‘Skate’ Plaza Winter Break Takeover will feature interactive games for the whole family, including a hockey shoot, cornhole, hula hoops, and giant Jenga. Visitors should stop by the warming station with that will feature heat lamps, gloves, hand warmers, and neck warmers, all provided by MVP while supplies last.

“The Empire State Plaza ice rink is a great choice for families looking to spend time together, make memories, and stay active over the winter break. We invite everyone to embrace the season and join the fun at the Plaza, especially the students home on break,” Commissioner Destito said. “I want to thank MVP Health Care for making this exciting new event possible.”

MVP will be on the Plaza throughout the day with games and giveaways that families will be sure to enjoy. We look forward to seeing you there!”

Additional activities during the week include meet and greets with RPI Men’s Hockey and the Adirondack Thunder professional hockey team, ice sculpting demonstrations, a visit from Captain Marvel, a Rock and Skate, plus daily appearances by your favorite iHeartRadio personalities.

Phil’s Kitchen, located in the glass pavilion adjacent to the rink, will be open and selling refreshments from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Ice Rink Information

Hours:  Noon to 8 p.m. seven days a week, weather permitting. Closed 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. on weekdays and both 2 – 3 p.m. and 5 – 6 p.m. on weekends for maintenance.

Cost to skate: Free

Skate Rentals: $4 for adults, $3 for children 12 and under. A photo ID is required to rent skates. Every Saturday is Hannaford Free Skate Rental Saturday.

Amenities: Lockers, skate rentals, and refreshments are available in the glass pavilion adjacent to the rink. Children’s helmets and ice walkers/trainers for beginning skaters are also available free of charge.
