Media Advisory: New York State Parks Expands Free Learn to Swim ProgramEXCELLENT PHOTO/VIDEO OPPORTUNITY |
|||||||||
Learn-to-Swim is a statewide program that in its second year is expanding. Across the state, three additional parks have been selected to host free Learn-to-Swim classes and two of those parks are here in the Saratoga/Capital Region at Grafton Lakes and Moreau Lake State Parks. The expanded program will teach up to 1000 children across the state to swim for free this summer season, doubling the number of children reached in 2013’s pilot year by including more parks and more regions. The program, for children up to 12 years, is made possible through a partnership between the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, the American Red Cross, National Swimming Pool Foundation and the Northeast Spa and Pool Association Foundation.
The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation oversees 180 state parks and 35 historic sites, which are visited by 60 million people annually. A recent study commissioned by Parks & Trails New York found that New York State Parks generates $1.9 billion in economic activity annually and supports 20,000 jobs. For more information on any of these recreation areas, call 518-474-0456 or visit www.nysparks.com, connect on Facebook, or follow on Twitter. |
