OGS ANNOUNCES FREE EVENING FITNESS CLASSES THIS SUMMER AT THE EMPIRE STATE PLAZA

Tuesday and Thursday Classes Start June 6 at a New Outdoor Location by The Egg

Fitness at the Plaza is Sponsored by Highmark Blue Shield of Northeastern New York 

 

New York State Office of General Services (OGS) Commissioner Jeanette Moy today announced the June 6 start of the popular Summer Fitness at the Plaza program presented by Highmark Blue Shield of Northeastern New York.

Fitness at the Plaza classes are free and open to individuals of all ages, regardless of fitness level or experience. The classes will be held at a new outdoor location on the Empire State Plaza this summer, between The Egg and Cornerstone. The indoor Cornerstone space will serve as the rain location during inclement weather. The classes take place from 5 to 6 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday through August 31, with no classes held the week of Independence Day.

“Since 2017, OGS has offered outdoor fitness classes at the Empire State Plaza. This time-honored program provides a free and accessible space for the State workforce and the local community to get active and healthy,” Commissioner Moy saidThrough their sponsorship, our generous partners at Highmark Blue Shield of Northeastern New York are giving the public one more reason to come to the Plaza. Thanks to instructors from the Hot Yoga Spot and DNA Bodyworx for helping us to stay fit this summer.”

Classes

Tuesdays: Pilates with The Hot Yoga Spot

Refresh, restore, and rejuvenate with a Pilates session suitable for all experience levels. With an emphasis on core strength, this class allows participants to strengthen their bodies and improve flexibility Instructors will go step by step through the individual exercises to learn proper execution, alignment, and modifications to suit specific physical needs and coordinate breath to each movement. This series of classes is great for anyone new to Pilates or who wants to brush up on their skills. 

Thursdays: PHIIT2 with DNA Bodyworx

PHIIT2 is an interval training workout designed to meet participants at their current fitness level and help them elevate to the next level. PHIIT2 is for all fitness levels. The 60-minute workout focuses on full-body movement and includes a warm-up, cool-down, and a lot of fun. 

All participants will be required to sign a waiver to participate. People are encouraged to pre-register at www.empirestateplaza.ny.gov to sign the waiver in advance and to be contacted regarding any updates to the schedule. Walk-ins are also welcome. 

Class participants must bring their own exercise mats, water bottles, and towels. No equipment will be provided.
