Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Recruit Apprentices

Albany, NY (March 30, 2018) - The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers, Local Union #2 (Albany), will conduct a recruitment from May 1, 2018 through April 29, 2019 for eight bricklayer, mason, and plasterer apprentices; six pointer, caulker, and cleaner apprentices; two tile setter apprentices; and two tile, marble, and terrazzo finisher apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Please note that the openings listed for apprentices represent the total number for three recruitment regions - the Capital District, Mohawk Valley, and North Country regions. 

Applications can be obtained at the Eastern Contractors Association, 6 Airline Drive, Albany, NY, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. They can also be obtained at Local Union #2, 302 Centre Drive, Albany, NY, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. every Monday, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED).
  • Must be physically able to lift 50-100 pounds (determined by JATC).
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from various job sites and related instruction classes.
  • Must reside within the geographic jurisdiction of Local Union #2 for at least six months prior to application. This includes the counties of Albany, Clinton, Columbia, Essex, Franklin, Fulton, Greene, Hamilton, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Warren, and Washington. It also includes the state of Vermont.
  • Must provide military transfer card or discharge form DD-214, if applicable, after selection and prior to indenture.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
