OGS ANNOUNCES LINEUP FOR NEW YORK STATE’S FOURTH OF JULY CELEBRATION PRESENTED BY PRICE CHOPPER/MARKET 32

Free Event to Feature Food, Live Music, and the Capital Region’s Biggest and Best Pyrotechnics Display

Pop-up COVID-19 Vaccination Site Open for Walk-ins 

Free Parking at Empire State Plaza Available, Starting at 5:30 p.m. 

 

New York State Office of General Services (OGS) Commissioner RoAnn Destito today announced the lineup for the New York State’s July 4 Celebration presented by Price Chopper/Market 32 at the Empire State Plaza. With an exciting program filled with incredible live music, great food and beverages, and the biggest and best fireworks display in the region. This year’s festivities will run from 6 to 10 p.m. on Sunday, July 4, with a pop-up COVID-19 vaccination site operating on the Plaza from  6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

 
Since the country’s bicentennial in 1976, OGS has been partnering with Price Chopper & Market 32 to put on an Independence Day event that has traditionally drawn tens of thousands of people to the Empire State Plaza.
 
July 4 Schedule
5:30 p.m.     Empire State Plaza parking lots open and registration begins at pop-up vaccination site.
6:00 p.m.     Start of event and vaccination site opens
6:30 p.m.     Performance by Graham Tichy and the New Lowdown
7:45 p.m.     Official July 4 ceremony with Color Guard, National Anthem, and remarks.
8:00 p.m.     Performance by Powerhouse Funk Band
9:15 p.m.     Fireworks
10:00 p.m.   Event Ends
 
This year’s July 4 event will feature special performances by local artists, the Powerhouse Funk Band, known for keeping members of their audiences on the dance floor with a feel-good fire deep in their souls, and Graham Tichy and the New Lowdown, a band specializing in the classic rock and roll songs of the 1950s and 1960s.
 
The official July 4 ceremony will begin at 7:45 and feature a color guard and the singing of the national anthem by Air National Guard Master Sargeant Samantha Marquette assigned to the 109th Airlift Wing at Stratton Air National Guard Base in Scotia.

The live performances will lead up to the region’s most spectacular fireworks by Santore’s World Famous Fireworks from Schaghticoke – kicking off at approximately 9:15 p.m.
The pop-up, mobile vaccination center will operate from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will be situated by the New York State Fallen Firefighters Memorial on the Plaza. Walk-in registration begins at 5:30 p.m.
 
The 4th of July celebration is focused on creating a family-friendly environment. A smoke- and alcohol-free area will be located by Agency Building 1, near the Empire State Plaza Playground.
 
Free parking will be available starting at 5:30 p.m. in the visitor and “P” lots under the Empire State Plaza, and the Grand Street and Elk Street lots. *Note: (These parking areas will be closed before 5:30 p.m.)
 
Plaza security will enforce its alcohol policy consistent with all other events and will not allow outside alcoholic beverages, hard-sided coolers, or glass containers to be brought onto the Plaza at any time of day. Alcohol will be served from 6 p.m. to 9:15 p.m.by vendors to adults with proper identification. The use of sparklers and fireworks is not permitted at the Empire State Plaza. All bags and backpacks will be subject to search. No animals or pets, except for ADA-defined service animals, will be allowed.
