Olean, NY (January 22, 2021) – The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JAC) for the Southern Tier Laborers, Local Union #621, will conduct a recruitment from March 1, 2021 through December 31, 2021 for four Skilled Construction Craft Laborer apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Applications are by appointment only. Schedule an appointment by calling 716-372-2639, Monday – Thursday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., excluding major holidays, during the recruitment period. Applications can be printed online at: www.laborers621.com and brought to the scheduled appointment or obtained in person at 1521 North Union Street, Olean, NY during the scheduled appointment. During the appointment, a basic math test will be scheduled (tests are given on the third Wednesday of each month). All applications must be received by December 31, 2021.

The Committee requires that applicants:

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED).
• Must attest in writing that they are physically able to perform the work of the trade, including:
  • Working with sharp objects and hazardous machinery.
  • Working in environments with possible exposure to loud noise and respiratory irritants.
  • Regularly standing and lifting, and repeated squatting and/or bending.
  • Working indoors and outdoors in extreme temperatures, and in all types of weather.
  • Able to lift and/or move heavy objects and equipment that are at least 50 lbs.
  • Working from heights using ladders and scaffolds.
• Must pass a Non-Department of Transportation (DOT) drug screening, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to enrollment in apprenticeship.
• Must pass a basic math test with a minimum score of at least 80%.
• Must have a valid driver’s license in order to operate company vehicles on public roads.
• Must have reliable transportation to and from various job sites and required classes at the approved school.
• Must be willing to travel to various job sites within the jurisdiction of the program sponsor, which includes Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and Allegany counties in Southwestern NY.
• Must be legally able to work in the United States.
