Cross Bay Veterans Memorial Bridge Ramp and Lane Closures for Roadway Work: Starts Feb. 26th Detour Signage Will Direct Motorists

In order to accommodate necessary roadway joint, pavement and barrier replacement on the bridge’s main span and the five Rockaway ramps, the Cross Bay Bridge will be implementing staged roadway lane and ramp closures starting Tuesday, February 26, 2019, following the morning rush hours. The work will continue through the Spring, with signed detours in place to direct customers and local bus service.

The first stage of work will affect two of the five ramps at the Rockaway side of the bridge: the northbound (to Broad Channel) ramp toward the bridge from Beach Channel Drive, and the southbound (to Rockaway) ramp from the bridge to Beach 95th Street will be closed for up to a month.

After the work on these ramps is complete, the following stages will require closure of the remaining ramps, one closure in each direction at a time, with corresponding detours. There will also be single-lane closures on the main span in either direction, with two lanes remaining open to traffic.

Signs alerting motorists and buses to the detours will be posted throughout the area. Motorists should plan accordingly and allow additional travel time.

Motorists can sign up for MTA e-mail or text alerts at www.mymtaalerts.com and check the Bridges and Tunnels homepage or Facebook page for the latest information on this planned work.
