New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and the Friends of Herkimer Home will celebrate the 100th year acquisition anniversary by providing visitors a past, present and future experience of the historic site once home to Revolutionary War hero, general Nicholas Herkimer.

Built by Herkimer in 1764 and acquired by New York State Parks in 1913, the site will offer a celebration on Sunday where visitors will learn about some of the upcoming projects planned, which includes mansion restoration and refurbishment as well as soon to be interactive exhibits that will showcase the history of the property through modern technology.

The past will be brought to life through ledgers, photos, drawings and other archives from the earliest years and the pre and post 1913 era. Present day educational programs will also be on display.

Following the Herkimer 100th celebration, a memorial service will feature a wreath laying, musket salute and music to commemorate the anniversary of General Herkimer’s death from the wounds he received at the Battle of Oriskany in 1777.
