DEC CELEBRATES ARBOR DAY WITH TREE PLANTING AT NEWLY OPENED CONSCIENCE BAY WATERSHED ACCESS SITE

Ahead of Arbor Day, representatives from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), along with members from the Peconic Land Trust (PLT), Suffolk County, town of Brookhaven, Strongs Neck Civic Association, Three Village Civic Association, and Setalcott Nation, will plant trees at DEC’s newly improved Conscience Bay-Little Bay Tidal Wetland Area. The opening of the site was a cooperative effort spanning nearly a decade.

When: Thursday, April 24, 10:30 a.m. Rain or shine.   

Where: 40 Dyke Road, Setauket, NY 11733 (40.9563178222004, -73.11538223808567)  

Directions: Take Nichols Road toward Stony Brook and turn right onto North County Road/NY-25A. In 0.4 miles, turn left onto North Country Road. North Country Road becomes Main Street. Turn right to stay on Main Street and then take first left onto Caroline Avenue. Caroline Avenue becomes Dyke Road. Site is one-mile down Dyke Road on the left. 

Photo Opportunities: Tree and shrub plantings, a tour of the access site and water views of Conscience Bay and presentations made by various officials. Site features include a three-car parking space and an Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant path down to the water.
