BEIJING, China --- Madison Chock and Evan Bates held onto second place and took the silver medal while Max Aaron came from behind to earn the bronze medal, highlighting the United States’ day two performance at 2017 Cup of China, the third event of the 2017 International Skating Union (ISU) Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series.

Chock and Bates, who entered the free dance in second place, scored 111.84 points on Saturday for 184.50 overall points to secure the silver medal. Skating their “Imagine” free dance, Chock and Bates opened with two Level 4 lifts, and impressive Level 4 twizzles. They added another Level 4 lift and a Level 4 spin in the second half of their program.

Aaron, who started the day in fifth place, impressed the crowd with the day’s top free skate. Skating to music from "Phantom of the Opera," Aaron landed 12 jumps overall, including three quads. He was also awarded three Level 4 spins. It’s Aaron’s fourth career Grand Prix Series medal and his first since his Skate America title in 2015.

Also in the men’s competition, American Vincent Zhou put together the second-best free skate of the competition, earning 176.43 points. Zhou, who was making his senior Grand Prix Series debut, finished fourth overall with 256.66 points. He landed four quad jumps. Grant Hochstein finished ninth overall, scoring 135.89 points in his free skate for 216.44 overall points.

Lorraine McNamara and Quinn Carpenter, who were making their senior Grand Prix Series debut, finished fifth in the ice dance competition. They earned a season’s best of 93.96 points in the free dance to total 157.61 overall points. They earned three Level 4 lifts and Level 4 twizzles. Elliana Pogrebinsky and Alex Benoit finished seventh with 150.47 total points.

Ashley Cain and Timothy LeDuc finished sixth in their Grand Prix Series debut, earning 101.21 points on Saturday for 154.36 total points. The entered the free skate in seventh place.

In her senior Grand Prix series debut, Amber Glenn finished 10th in the ladies competition. She finished with 151.14 points after earning 98.53 points in Saturday’s free skate.

The ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series continues this week in Osaka, Japan with NHK Trophy. Eight athletes will represent the United States at the event.

The Grand Prix series concludes when Lake Placid, N.Y. host the 2017 Bridgestone Grand Prix, Nov. 24-26. The men and pairs short programs are set for Friday, Nov. 24. The ladies short program and short dance, as well as the pairs and men’s free skates will take place Saturday, Nov. 25. On Sunday, Nov. 26, the competition concludes with the free dance and ladies free skate.

Past Skate America titlists include five-time World champion and two-time Olympic medalist Michelle Kwan and Olympic champions Kristi Yamaguchi, Scott Hamilton, Evan Lysacek and Meryl Davis and Charlie White. The event will mark the fifth time the event has been held in Lake Placid.
