Laborers Recruit Apprentices

Glenmont , NY (July 22, 2014)The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for the Eastern New York Laborers Training Center will conduct a recruitment from August 22, 2014 through August 21, 2015 for eight skilled construction craft laborer apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Peter M. Rivera announced today.

Applications can be obtained at the Eastern New York Laborers Training Center, 666 Wemple Road, Glenmont, NY; the Eastern Contractors Association, 6 Airline Drive, Albany, NY; and the Schenectady Laborers Local Union #157, 105 Clinton Street, Schenectady, NY, on the third Friday of each month from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period.  All applications must be completed on site.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED).
  • Must have a valid New York State driver’s license.  Apprentices may be required to operate company vehicles.
  • Must be a resident of New York State.
  • Must be able to work both day and evening shifts.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner.  Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status.  Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs.  Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
