COMMISSIONER REARDON PARTNERS WITH U.S. DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AFFAIRS TO OFFER CENTRAL NEW YORK CAREER FAIR

Job Seekers Encouraged to Pre-Register Here

State Labor Commissioner Roberta Reardon announced today that more than 180 businesses will offer over 6,400 job opportunities at the Central New York Career Fair. The event will be held on Tuesday, June 6 at the SRC Arena on the campus of Onondaga Community College from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The event is presented by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Onondaga Community College, and the New York State Department of Labor.

“With this event falling on the anniversary of D-Day, it’s fitting that we partner with the VA to offer a career fair of this size to both veterans and the general public,” said State Labor Commissioner Roberta Reardon. “For job seekers in the Central New York region, this event promises to offer a multitude of opportunities and I encourage anyone looking for a new career to sign up to attend.”

Businesses will be offering on-site job interviews with company representatives. In addition, a resource room will be available for job seekers to research employment opportunities and complete online applications. The event is free of charge for job seekers and businesses alike.

Additionally, the VA will have staff on hand to assist veterans interested in enrolling in VA healthcare.

More than 10 businesses are expected to conduct on-site job interviews, including:

  • Davidson Ford
  • Home Depot
  • Peregrine
  • Spectrum
  • Toomey Residential
  • Arise
  • ARC of Onondaga

Ensuring Job Seekers Are Prepared
The State Labor Department is offering on-site workshops for attendees, including:

  • "Find Success with Jobs Express” – a course in best practices when searching for work online
  • “Rewarding Careers in Public Service” – offering information on opportunities within New York State Civil Service

Registration Encouraged
Those who wish to attend are asked to register online at https://www.labor.ny.gov/businessservices/cny-career-expo.shtm. Turnout is expected to be high so individuals are strongly encouraged to register as soon as possible.

“Working with our community partners at the New York State Department of Labor and Onondaga Community College, we believe we can help job many Veteran job seekers, as well as members of the general public, find career and employment opportunities by directly connecting hiring businesses with the talented workers they need to drive their operations,” said Mark Antinelli, Syracuse VA Human Resources Manager.

"Transitioning from military to civilian life can be difficult for many Veterans returning home.  The stability and security that a job offers during this time of adjustment for Veterans is crucial to a smooth transition. The New York State Department of Labor provides a great service to this nation's heroes by offering them opportunities to demonstrate to employers and businesses the benefits they gain from hiring Veterans," said Eric J. Hesse, Director of the New York State Division of Veterans' Affairs.

Job seekers are reminded to dress professionally and bring several copies of their resumes.

Free parking is available in the lots adjacent to the SRC Arena.
