New Long Island Rail Road timetables will go into effect on Monday, November 14 with enhanced train service for the holiday season and changes to daily train service from Montauk and weekend train service to and from Greenport. The new schedules, which will remain in effect through Sunday, March 6, also reflect adjustments to departure and arrival times of off-peak and weekend trains to accommodate track work on some branches.
Extra Service for the Holiday Season The LIRR will operate additional early afternoon eastbound trains on November 23, the eve of Thanksgiving, on December 23, the Friday before Christmas, and on Friday, December 30, the Friday before New Year’s for customers looking to make an early get away from work.
Holiday Fares – Off-Peak Pricing & Family Fare Discount As a bonus, off-peak fares will be in effect for the extended Thanksgiving weekend from Thursday, November 24 through Sunday, November 27. Additionally, the Railroad’s Family Fare Discount will be in effect all four days. That means kids ages 5-11 (limit of 4 children) can ride one-way for $1 when accompanied by a fare paying parent or guardian. Weekly and monthly ticket holders pay just for the kids and, as always, children under 5 ride free.
Changes in Travel to Long Island’s East End Weekdays from Montauk The 5:39 a.m. peak train from Montauk to Hunterspoint Ave. is expected to run more reliably now that the schedules of two trains ahead of it have been adjusted.
Weekends to and from Greenport and the North Fork Weekend service between Ronkonkoma and Greenport during the winter months is being restored for the first time since 2010. Two trains in each direction will operate each weekend as weekend service is once again being provided year-round.
‘Sundown Service’ Returns Friday, November 18
Timetable Adjustments for Scheduled Track Work Some off-peak trains are adjusted during this timetable to accommodate track work, including trains on the following branches: Atlantic Branch One of two main tracks between East New York and Jamaica will be out of service midday weekdays for the replacement of continuously welded rail. Port Washington Branch One of two main tracks of the Port Washington Branch between Mets-Willets Point and Bayside will be out of service midday weekdays for the completion of mechanized tie work, hand tie replacement and other miscellaneous work. This is the last phase of mechanized tie work that began last year. Montauk Branch
