Laborers Recruit Apprentices

Glenmont , NY (August 8, 2013) - The Eastern New York Laborers’ Training Center will conduct a recruitment from August 16, 2013 through August 15, 2014 for eight skilled construction craft laborer apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Peter M. Rivera announced today.

Applications can be obtained at the Eastern New York Laborers’ Training Center, 666 Wemple Road, Glenmont, NY; the Eastern Contractors Association, 6 Airline Drive, Albany, NY; and the Schenectady Laborers Local #157, 105 Clinton Street, Schenectady, NY,  the third Friday of each month from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. Applications must be filled out on the premises.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or a General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D).
  • Must have a valid driver’s license to operate company vehicles.
  • Must be a resident of New York State.
  • Must be able to work both day and evening shifts as needed.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
