Laborers Recruit Apprentices

Rochester, NY (March 25, 2021) - The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC) for the Rochester Laborers, Local Union #435, will conduct a recruitment from May 4, 2021 through May 3, 2022 for 10 Skilled Construction Craft Laborer apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Applications must be completed, in person only, at Rochester Laborers, Local Union #435, 20-22 Fourth St., Rochester, NY, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. No applications are to leave the premises. Additional information about becoming a member can be found at www.local435.com. All applications must be received by 5/3/22.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED).
  • Must attest that they are physically able to do the work of a Skilled Construction Craft Laborer, which may include:
    • Consistently lifting, up to 50 pounds.
    • Working outdoors and in a variety of weather conditions.
    • Working in an environment with strong odors and loud noises.
  • Must pass a Non-Department of Transportation (DOT) drug screening, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to enrollment in apprenticeship.
  • Must be legally able to work in the United States.
  • Must possess a valid NYS driver’s license in order to operate company vehicles.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from various job sites and required classes at the approved school located in Oswego, NY.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
