Who: Excelsior Conservation Corps
What: Two work teams from the Excelsior Conservation Corps will be working at Robert H. Treman State Park in Ithaca, thru June 29th.
The first team will be replacing over 120 stairs cut in to the hillside on the lower Gorge Trail, near the main park office, and also completing other trail infrastructure projects (drainage, grading, hazard mitigation).
The second team will be removing invasive plant species throughout the park, and also at Buttermilk Falls State Park. They will be focused on invasive Black Swallow Wart and Japanese Knotweed.
When: Trail crew will be working from 8:00am – 4:00pm, June 20th-29th (Off on Saturday, June 25th)

Envisioned in Governor Cuomo’s 2015 Opportunity Agenda, the Excelsior Conservation Corps enrolled 50 members to assist state agencies in a variety of open space management; natural resource stewardship; infrastructure and sustainability projects throughout the state. The 10-month service program began in January 2016 and is administered by the Student Conservation Association, a leading national organization in youth and young adult conservation service and environmental education programs.
The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation oversees 180 state parks and 35 historic sites, which are visited by 65 million people annually. A recent study found that New York State Parks generates $1.9 billion in economic activity annually and supports 20,000 jobs.
