LIRR’s Autumn Weekends Are Back: Travel With a Monthly Ticket Holder and Pay $1

Customer Appreciation Continues Second Year in a Row Following a Successful Summer Saturdays Program

The weekend getaway season continues for Long Island Rail Road customers with the return of Autumn Weekends. Since launching in 2018, the LIRR’s Summer Saturdays and Autumn Weekends pilot programs have been so well-received and used by tens of thousands of customers. Now, the LIRR is expanding the program once again for five consecutive weekends between Oct. 12 and Nov. 10, 2019.

Customers with monthly tickets, regardless of zone, will find their tickets honored systemwide to and from all LIRR stations -- with the added benefit of bringing up to four companions for only $1 per person each way.

“We are so pleased that so many customers took to the rails on Summer Saturdays, and look forward to seeing them enjoy this perk again in the fall months ahead,” LIRR President Phil Eng said. “Autumn is a great time to take the family out to Long Island’s many attractions while being able to sit back and let someone else do the driving.”

For the 12 consecutive Saturdays when the Summer Saturdays Program was in place, June 1 through August 24, 2019, almost 70,000 riders purchased a $1 Family Fare ticket, as compared to about 62,000 during Summer Saturdays 2018. During the five-week period in August, about 5,700 riders purchased the $1 Family Fare tickets, a 15 percent increase over the five-week period the previous year.

With 124 stations across Nassau and Suffolk counties, as well as Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan, monthly ticket holders and their guests can take the train across our system to places like the North and South Forks for some pumpkin picking or enjoying the latest vineyard varietals. Autumn weekends are also a good time to head out to the outlets in Deer Park or Riverhead to get an early start on holiday shopping. Visit our LIRR Deals & Getaways page for more weekend activity ideas.

The LIRR Summer Saturdays and Autumn Weekends pilot is modeled on the existing Family Fare ticket, which runs year-round, and allows up to four children (ages 5-11; children under 5 ride free) to ride for $1 each when accompanied by a fare-paying adult. This program extends this offer to adults as well, when traveling with a monthly customer whose ticket in effect becomes a system-wide pass on Autumn Weekends.
