Invent your own Perfect Holiday in Lake Placid

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. - The Adirondack alpine village of Lake Placid is always the perfect place to be for the holidays, but this winter is especially event-FULL!

A jam-packed calendar of events and activities will be featured in a townwide celebration that begins on Dec. 26 and extends into the New Year.

Don’t miss out on skiing and riding Whiteface Mountain, in Wilmington, N.Y., and taking in all of the Activity Zone fun activities, on the Mixing Bowl trail, on December 27 and January 1, 2016. The hours both nights are from 5-9 p.m.

On Jan. 3, New York-produced food and drink will be highlighted at the new TasteNY venue in the lodge. Attendees who bring groceries to donate to the food pantry will be rewarded with 50 percent off Whiteface lift tickets.

The Olympic Center and adjacent Conference Center at Lake Placid will host a variety of activities and events. Tickets are still available for the Ekaterina Gordeeva "From the Heart" Tribute Ice Show on Wednesday, Dec. 30. Indoor skating for the public will be available several times daily, and special evening sessions will be available for curling in the 1932 Rink. Plus, an increased schedule of guided, informative Olympic Center tours are on tap, and Lake Placid’s robust winter sports history is on display at the must-see Olympic Museum.

A list of self-guided hikes for families and daily scheduled guided hikes will be available, and include a guided hike at the Olympic Sports Complex, where visitors can also try out the thrilling bobsled experience.

From Dec. 26- Jan. 2, visitors will enjoy daily entertainment and interactive family fun downtown and at Mid’s Park on Main Street. Festivities located downtown will include the exciting air bag jump, music, bonfires, an obstacle course and interactive family games. Mid’s Park will be action-packed with a diverse schedule of family fun from 3-5 p.m. daily, including live music, ice carving demonstrations, hot chocolate, relay races and more.

Wellness opportunities abound all week. Several locations throughout the community offer yoga classes, and a full schedule of Zumba, turbo kick and PiYo will be held Monday-Thursday and Saturday morning at the Conference Center at Lake Placid.

Run the last race of the year AND the first race of the year in a town known for sports and fitness! Runners and walkers of all abilities are invited to join in on a 5k running race around Mirror Lake on December 31 and one the following day on January 1.

The area offers a long list of attractions and historic sites to explore, from art galleries to scenic flights and the Wild Center to the Wildlife Refuge. And of course, all are welcome to explore the region’s eclectic list of businesses, offering fantastic shopping, dining, activities, events and live music experiences, too.

Additional outdoor activities will be added as they become available. For more information and the latest updates for the festive holiday week in Lake Placid, sample itineraries and complete events listings can be found online at lakeplacid.com/holidays.
