DEC ANNOUNCES SECOND YEAR OF CAMPGROUND AMBASSADOR PROGRAM

State Encourages Volunteers to Become a Campground Ambassadors and Help More New Yorkers Enjoy the Outdoors

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) today announced the opening of the 2019 application period for the Campground Ambassador program as part of the state’s Adventure NY initiative to connect more New Yorkers with the outdoors. Volunteer Campground Ambassadors support DEC campground staff in welcoming and assisting the millions of visitors that vacation in the Adirondack and Catskill parks each year. The program was introduced last year, and the first group of ambassadors were working in the field during Summer 2018.

“This summer, DEC’s first-ever Campground Ambassadors were on the ground helping DEC enhance the customer service experience at our facilities for campers by organizing fun, educational, and meaningful programs and projects,” said DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos “Introducing new visitors to DEC’s facilities, serving long-time visitors, and providing our campers with quality programs is an integral part of the continued success of our campground program and ensuring campers return year after year.”

DEC encourages New York residents who are passionate about camping and the outdoors to help introduce new campers to DEC facilities and other outdoor activities. Ambassadors also aid in connecting campers and day users to nature via environmentally themed activities and programming.

Ambassadors will serve two weeks, between July 1 and Labor Day or from September 30 through Columbus Day. In consideration for services provided, a campsite will be provided for the duration of their stay at one of the following participating locations:
