MTA Board Meeting Pool Report

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) held its monthly board meeting March 25. In accordance with protocols for reducing density during the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, this month’s meeting was conducted with all board members other than Chairman Patrick J. Foye attending via video conference. Two reporters, Clayton Guse of the Daily News and Dan Rivoli of NY1 News, served as pool reporters in the room.

The following report was filed by pooler Guse and may be excerpted or copied by any news organization. Although it is being distributed to the MTA’s media list, it was wholly created by the pooler.

MTA held a virtual board meeting Wednesday, March 25, started on time at 10 a.m.

MTA Chairman & CEO Patrick J. Foye chaired the meeting, other board members participated via video chat. Several sub-agency heads attended in-person, but were spaced out, sitting at least six feet away from one another.

Notable absentees among voting board members via video chat included David Mack and Robert Mujica.

13 public speakers provided pre-recorded video messages.

MTA Chief Operating Officer Mario Peloquin, Interim NYC Transit President Sarah Feinberg, MTA Chief Financial Officer Robert Foran, MTA Chief Transformation Officer Anthony McCord, MTA General Counsel Thomas Quigley, MTA HQ Chief Procurement Officer David Ross, Acting President for MTA Bus Company and Acting Senior Vice President of NYC Transit Department of Buses Craig Cipriano, MTA Acting Auditor General Michele Woods were among in-person attendees.

NYC Transit Senior Vice President of Subways Sally Librera attended in-person, though not at board room table. Same with MTA Chief Communications Officer Abbey Collins and MTA Communications Director Tim Minton.

Long Island Rail Road President Phil Eng, Metro-North President Catherine Rinaldi and MTA Chief Development Officer Janno Lieber all called in via video chat to give their monthly reports.

Lieber, presenting from home, had a shelf behind him containing a mix of horizontally- and vertically-stacked books. Not newsworthy but interesting.

MTA board member Larry Schwartz had poor reception via video chat, his stream had an apparent delay.

MTA board member David Jones appeared comfortable from home via video chat, wearing a black hoodie. Not newsworthy but cozy clothes are important.

All procurements and action items in board materials were approved by MTA board.

Meeting adjourned at 11:40 a.m.
