Installation of Pedestrian Bridge at LIRR’s Little Neck Station Starts 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4 Through the Weekend of Dec. 3-4

New Span Scheduled to Open In Time for AM Rush on Monday, Dec. 5

MTA Long Island Rail Road plans to install a new pedestrian overpass at Little Neck Station in Queens with work scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, December 2 and through the weekend with the new bridge ready for Monday’s morning rush. The project is not expected to impact train service.

“We know the loss of the overpass has been an inconvenience for customers, but their safety was our first concern and we appreciate their patience,” said LIRR President Patrick A. Nowakowski. “Going pre-fab was the quickest way to replace the old span and our forces look forward to getting the job done.”

In order to accommodate the crane and other equipment required to accomplish this work, complete closure of the Little Neck parking lot is required from 6 p.m. Friday, December 2, reopening to the public on Sunday, December 4. All cars must be removed from the lot by 6 p.m. on Friday. Any remaining vehicles will be towed at the owner’s expense.

The overnight work will also require the use of lighting and a certain amount of installation-related noise and dust should be expected.  The parking lot will reopen by Saturday evening.

The LIRR closed the old bridge, which opened in 1989, on June 29 after an inspection by LIRR’s Engineering Department found it unsafe for further pedestrian use. It was demolished overnight Friday, September 9, into Saturday, September 10.
