Porter Corners Man Wins $1,000,000 Scratch-off Prize

Fifty-three-year-old Bryan MacPherson of Porter Corners is Saratoga County’s newest Lottery millionaire.  MacPherson won the $1,000,000 jackpot prize on a $5 Jumbo Bucks scratch-off ticket he purchased during a routine stop at Stewarts’s Shops.

“I play the scratch-off tickets for the fun of it,” explained MacPherson.  “I don’t really have a strategy.  I just mix up the tickets and hope to win.”

MacPherson was excited when he scratched off matching 1s earning him the $1,000,000 top prize.  “I feel like a million bucks!” he joked.

MacPherson chose to receive his prize as a one-time lump sum payment.  He will receive a net check totaling $537,440 after required withholdings.

When asked if he had any advice for other Lottery players out there MacPherson quipped, “Hey you never know!”

MacPherson said he doesn’t have immediate plans for his newfound fortune.  “I just plan to live comfortably,” he said.

The winning ticket was purchased at Stewart’s Shops at 210 South Broadway in Saratoga Springs.

MacPherson is the 100th New York Lottery player to claim a prize totaling $1,000,000 or more this year.

About the New York Lottery

The New York Lottery continues to be North America’s largest and most profitable Lottery, contributing $3.37 billion in fiscal year 2017-2018 to help support education in New York State. The Lottery’s contribution represents approximately 13 percent of total state education aid to local school districts.

New York Lottery revenue is distributed to local school districts by the same statutory formula used to distribute other state aid to education. It takes into account both a school district’s size and its income level; larger, lower-income school districts receive proportionately larger shares of Lottery school funding.
