Entire 1980 USA Hockey Team to Return to Lake Placid Feb. 21

Players & Fans Relieve the “Miracle on Ice,” Saturday

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. --- For the first time since they left Lake Placid, N.Y., with shiny Olympic gold medals around their necks, all 19 members from that famed 1980 USA Hockey Team will return to relieve their “Miracle on Ice” moment.

Over the last 35 years, the players from this team have gathered together in other parts of the country and several have even returned to Lake Placid to be together with family or participate in events. But on Saturday, Feb. 21, for the first-time ever, the entire squad, every member of that team, will be together in the host village of the 1980 Olympic Winter Games to celebrate their improbable march to Olympic gold.

All 19 members will be on stage during Saturday’s Relive the Miracle Celebration, which gets underway at 7:30 p.m., in the Herb Brooks-1980 Arena, the same arena where the team stunned the world, beating the Soviet Union 4-3, in the game that’s known worldwide as the “Miracle on Ice.”

Tickets are on sale now, for just $19.80, and can be purchased through the Olympic Center box office by calling 518-523-3330. VIP tickets are also available by calling 518-302-5375. Doors open for general admission ticketed fans at 6:30 p.m. and the program will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Hosted by 11-time Emmy Award winner Todd Walsh the audience, as well as the players from the famed 1980 USA Hockey Team, will travel back to that fateful and historic day through segments and programs entitled “The Journey,” “The Steps,” “The Miracle,” and “The Gold.”

The evening will be an emotional one, as it will conclude with the raising of fallen teammate Bob Suter’s jersey to the rafters of the 1980 Rink-Herb Brooks Arena. Suter, 57, is the first member of the team to pass away, after suffering a heart attack in September of last year.

The 19 members of the 1980 USA Hockey Team include Bill Baker, Neal Broten, Dave Christian, Jim Craig, Steve Christoff, Mike Eruzione, Steve Janaszek, Mark Johnson, John Harrington, Rob McClanahan, Ken Morrow, Jack O’Callahan, Mark Pavelich, Mike Ramsey, Buzz Schneider, Dave Silk, Eric Strobel, Phil Verchota and Mark Wells.

Media Advisory --- Attached to this press release is the event’s media credential request form. Media planning on covering the event must complete and return the form to Jon Lundin, ORDA public relations, at 518-523-1655 ext. 5313 or email, jlundin@orda.org, for credential consideration.
