LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (November 16, 2017) --- The excitement of FIL Viessmann World Cup Luge racing returns to the famed Mt. Van Hoevenberg combined bobsled/luge/skeleton track, Dec. 14-16, 2017. More than 120 athletes from 31 countries are expected to compete in the fifth event of the nine-race World Cup series. For many, this could be their last opportunity to qualify for February’s Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea. WHAT: Viessmann World Cup Luge Lake Placid WHERE: Mt. Van Hoevenberg Olympic Sports Complex Track, 220 Bobsled Lane, Route 73, Lake Placid, N.Y. 12946 WHO: 120 athletes from 31 nations to include the United States, Austria, Canada, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Russia and others. WHY: This is the final World Cup Luge event before the holiday break and for some, their last opportunity to qualify for February’s Olympic Winter games in Pyeongchang, South Korea. WHEN: Thursday, Dec. 14: 8 a.m.-4 p.m. – World Cup Luge Training 5:30 p.m. – Nations Cup Racing (World Cup event qualifying race) Friday, Dec. 15: 10 a.m. – World Cup Doubles Luge Racing 12:40 p.m. – World Cup Men’s Singles Luge Racing 5:30 p.m. – Medal Ceremony Saturday, Dec. 16: 9:30 a.m. – World Cup Women’s Singles Luge Racing 12:05 p.m. – Sprint World Cup Doubles Luge Racing 12:45 p.m. – Sprint World Cup Women’s Singles Luge Racing 1:30 p.m. – Sprint World Cup Men’s Singles Luge Racing 3:30 p.m. – Medal Ceremony 8 p.m. – USA Luge announces its nominees to the USOC for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games MEDIA ADVISORY: All media interested in attending and covering the Viessmann FIL World Cup Luge Lake Placid event are required to complete a media credential application.
