Electricians Recruit Apprentices

Jamestown, NY (January 8, 2024) - The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC) for Electricians, Local Union #106, will conduct a recruitment from March 15, 2024 through March 14, 2025 for five Electrician apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Applications can be obtained at the JATC for Electricians, Local Union #106, 322 James Avenue, Jamestown, NY 14701, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 17 years old at the time of application (18 at time of enrollment in apprenticeship).
  • Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED) with a passing grade in high school algebra or a post-high school algebra course.
  • Applicants of the electrician trade who can verify having a minimum of 4000 hours of substantiated experience in the electrical construction trade do not need to meet the education requirements above. Proof is required after selection and prior to the enrollment in apprenticeship.
  • Must be physically able to perform the work required as determined by a physical exam, including a drug test, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to enrollment in apprenticeship.
  • Must be able to work from ladders, scaffolds, poles, and towers of various heights.
  • Must be able to crawl and work in confined spaces such as attics, manholes, and crawl spaces.
  • Must be able to write, read, hear and understand verbal and written instruction/warnings given in English.
  • Must obtain a score of five or higher (out of a possible score of 9) on the Electrical Training Alliance Aptitude Battery Test.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license. Apprentices may be required to operate company vehicles.
  • Must have a reliable means of transportation to and from various jobsites and required classes at the approved school.
  • Must be a resident, of at least one year, within the geographic jurisdiction of JATC for Electricians, Local Union #106. This includes:
    • The entire county of Chautauqua.
    • Allegheny County - The townships of Alma, *Amity, *Angelica, *Belfast, Bolivar, *Caneadea, Centerville, Clarksville, Cuba, Friendship, Genesee, New Hudson, Rushford, *Scio, and Wirt (* that portion west of the Genesee River).
    • Cattaraugus County - The townships of Allegheny, Carrolton, Cold Spring, Conewango, Dayton, Elko, Great Valley, Hinsdale, Humphrey, Ischua, Leon, Little Valley, Napoli, Olean, Portville, Red House, Randolph, Salamanca, and South Valley.
  • Must provide military transfer card or discharge form DD-214, if applicable, after selection and prior to enrollment in apprenticeship.
  • Must be able and willing to get to and from various job sites and attend all related classroom training.
  • Must submit to a background check at the committee’s expense if accepted for the program.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
